BurnINGMAN 2019 STICKER

This year Burning Man held a design contest for their welcome sticker. I found out about the contest three days before it was due. My friend who thought I should enter even though the contest was announced two months prior and many would have already used that time wisely. I was extremely excited for the challenge. I would be pushing myself to create something worthy in that timeframe. The theme was Metamorphoses which I found inspiring, intriguing and almost overwhelmingly vast.  Burning Man is routinely described as a transformative and sometimes a life changing experience. The write up on the this year’s theme is quite thought engaging (read it here). To be the one to design something that would visually represent this year’s journey, adventure, experience and memories for thousands seemed to good to pass up. I love the idea that each day and night, every experience and person we encounter changes us. The concept that we are never stagnant but always learning, growing and flowing with energy is hopeful. For me the message is that you do not have to be who you were yesterday. You do not have to do what you did last week. You can be on an everlasting quest for knowledge. The fact that there is a community willing to transform the dessert in to a metropolis so everyone can gain this transformative experience is beautiful. It seems filled with the ideas of community, love and respect. What I came up with is to the left. They haven’t announced a winner but I am very happy with how this  design symbolizes those changes and embodies that transformation.

Mouthing off in SQuaw

This is the second sticker in my “Mouthing Off” series. It was inspired by a number of trips taken to this year to Tahoe. Each trip there has been a completely different and wonderful experience. This vast mountain provides new trails each visit and the snow conditions were extremely different but exceptional. The whole town seemed to have the best sense of humor and everyone was such a fun character.

Mouthing Off In Mammoth

This sticker is the first in a series inspired by a solo road trip through several ski towns up the west coast and into Canada. Mammoth holds a special place in my heart as my home mountain. It’s where I learned to snowboard and met some amazing new friends. It is where so many firsts happened for me. Every time I leave, I can’t wait to go back and seem to start planning immediately during the beautiful drive down the 395.

This sticker followed a 4ft x5ft illustration embodying my first winter season. I’ve chased summer with my family for 29 years. However, as my 30th birthday approached and other life changes occurred, I decided to acknowledge a list of things I wanted to learn in the next decade. Snowboarding was at the top. I fell in love with the sport instantly, getting in 35 days for the season, visited 5 mountains and the stoke level was high for the upcoming winter.
